Top Five BEST Items to get at Garage Sales
#1 Babies' and Toddlers' clothes
- Babies and toddlers grow fast, their clothes are barely worn and these "oh-so-cute" clothes are really expensive new; it makes sense to get them at garage sales.
#2 Accessories for decorating
- Even at a place like Target, you can spend a fortune on this small stuff. Besides, I find that, by shopping garage sales, I've ended up with a lot more very high quality stuff that I would never have been willing to pay full price for. Let someone else buy something that's overpriced at a fancy boutique then you take it off their hands a year later (still looking new and still in style) for 10-30% of the original price.
#3 Samples
- I often come across reps that are selling the samples they received as part of their business. These items are brand new and usually go for very cheap.
#4 Exercise equipment
- Garage Sales are a graveyard of abandoned exercise equipment, so you can often find this stuff dirt cheap. Just be sure you try before you buy.
#5 Solid wood furniture
- If you know what you're looking for, you can sometimes get the "real thing" for less than you would pay for some cheap veneer stuff at your local furniture store.
Top Two WORST Items to get at Garage Sales
#1 Electronics
- The prices on this stuff are coming down so quickly that it usually doesn't make sense to get electronics at garage sales. The only exception is if you are really up on current prices, you know exactly what is being sold, have proof that it works, and it's a steal.
#2 Smelly clothes, linens, sofas, etc.
- Sniff before you buy. Need I say more?
