I've been rising early every morning to capture sunrises.  Each of these pictures was taken from our back yard using a Canon S3 IS Digital Camera and a tripod.  We had never lived where we had a view before, and it's amazing to discover that every day is truly unique.

Below are some of my favorites.   Click on the image to see the full-size version.

"Sunbird"

This picture was definitely a "God thing".  I was taking my usual sunrise pictures and this raven flew into the frame.  I couldn't have gotten this shot myself if I had tried a thousand times.

"Between Earth & Sky"

Every now and then, the valley takes on a sepia tone as it is caught between a dark earth and an  ever darker cloudbank overhead.

"God is Speaking"

I love mornings like this when I'm reminded of God's majesty.

"Chiminea"

I know that good photographers try and avoid sun flares, but this one turned my urn into a chiminea, so I couldn't resist.

"Fireball"

We have tiki torches and a firepit, but nothing beats the real thing.

"First Light"

I love anticipating the moment the sun finally peeks over the horizon.

"Fire in the Birdfeeder"

I was glad I hadn't filled the feeder.  This way, there was room for the sun!

"Dancing Red Tornadoes"

Who says we don't get tornadoes in California?  (I must confess I used a little color enhancement on this one).
